How Auto Shipping Really Works.
(The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.)
The process begins when you submit
a quote online. Often the website offers you 7-10 FREE quotes.
The aim of the broker is to get you to say YES to agreeing to use their services. What happens next? Money up front/deposits
in advance. |
Low quotes and how they work. A. The price sounds like a deal, and you get enticed with a lower price. B. You then hand over your credit card details to `guarantee` your space on a truck. This only guarantees you have paid a brokers fee, which makes them very happy, and as they have your money you become less of a priority. C.Often you have to sign a contract that gives the company 30 days to move your vehicle and if you cancel before the 30 days are up you forfeit your deposit. D.After a week or two of not producing
a truck, they will bottom line you with the GOOD news, BAD news
scenario. |
| Ok, so don`t pay up
front, there is no need. Any broker worth their salt can provide the service
you need without asking you to pay before they actually provide you with
the service. |
Why do the prices quotes vary so much from company to company? Well, We have explained the reason for the low quotes. Pricing transportation for a particular vehicle from point A to point B is NOT an exact science. We ESTIMATE the MAGIC number. The way we see it at Capitol is that the price for moving a vehicle has to be as low as possible for the customers benefit, yet still high enough to make it an attractive price for a carrier to want to pick up the vehicle. The bottom line is that money talks, we price our loads the following way: www.centraldispatch.com, savior of the transport world, again a wonderful website, very well thought out and put together, it`s a pay to use members only service where the members are either carriers, brokers or car dealers etc. Example: How we price a Toyota camry from Los Angeles, CA to Dallas, TX. We look at the central dispatch board, examine the prices being offered to carriers for similar vehicles for similar routes and distances and make sure we offer the carrier at least in the top 10% of prices. If we offer less than most we will simply be passed over. Carriers pick up the loads that pay the best. It`s not rocket science and you don`t have to be Einstein to figure out that the more attractive a price we offer a carrier, the better chance we have of having the vehicle picked up. |
The dispach board that loads are posted on and picked up from resembles this:
|
The price we offer a customer has to be a realistic price. That just means it`s a fair price to the carrier, if we offer too low then we will be wasting our time as well as our customers. We can see what other prices are being offered for similar vehicles and similar route, it makes no sense to offer less.We are not in business to keep deposits, we are here to move cars! What happens when you accept a company`s offer to find a carrier to transport your vehicle? The load info is posted to central
dispatch. This makes the load available to all the carriers in the country.
From this point carriers would call the broker directly and offer to move
the vehicle. We can look up all the carriers and check on their ratings
plus download a copy of their insurance. Companies with bad ratings, especially
those with bad ratings for "Late cancelation, no show or damgaged
the vehicle" do not get the job. We would rather wait an extra day
and find a carrier we can trust. Our reputaion is on the line with every
vehicle we move. Payment. Once the carrier has been assigned, an authorisation is taken on a credit card. This is basically so that when we dispatch the load to the carrier they will be confident that we are not sending them on a wild goose chase and wasting their time, money and fuel. Once the vehicle is LOADED onto a truck we take the authorisation amount off the card as a DEPOSIT. The balance is then paid directly to the driver upon delivery. This amount can be paid in cash, cashiers cheque or money order. Loading your vehicle. When the driver arrives at the pick up point he will go over the vehicle with a BILL OF LADING.This is a vehicle inspection report. The driver will make a note of all the marks, dents and scratches that already exist on the vehicle. Both the driver and the person who has been nominated to meet the driver sign this document. When the vehicle is delivered the same document is produced and any changes to the condition of the vehicle are noted. Any changes that ARE noted are the responsibility of the carrier. PLEASE PLEASE take your time to inspect your vehicle thoroughly. Once the Bill of Lading is signed, any discrepencies found afterwards are null and void. Delivery of your vehicle. When your vehicle arrives please take the time to inspect it. Only sign the Bill of Lading if you are happy with the condition your vehicle arrives in. Any changes noted on the Bill of Lading are the sole responsibility of the carrier, that`s why they carry the insurance! |
We hope this helps with being able to make an informed decision as to whom you should choose to move your vehicles.
